Ownership study

Length in this class is chosen at the table; the cockpit is chosen on the fourth hour of a wet passage. On a Hallberg-Rassy 36 the crew sits behind the coachroof: a Germán Frers centre cockpit in Ellös. On a Beneteau Oceanis 37 the helm and sail work stay on the open aft deck by Finot/Conq. Brochure length does not show that. The buyer pays for, or walks away from, that difference, not from neighbouring numbers on the plate.

Behind the HR 36 name in this pair sits one project: Frers, centre cockpit, Ellös, 1989-2003, a series of about 602. Beam 3.55 m, displacement about 7.5 t. Mk I (hulls 1-256, 1989-1994, hull length about 10.87 m) and Mk II (257-602, 1994-2003, about 11.31 m) change the transom and aft platform; without hull number, year, and a stern photo, two cards with the same name are not interchangeable. Enderlein in a write-up of this 36 is not another version; it is a sign the text was not built from the yard plate. Reject Enderlein on this 36.

In this pair the Oceanis is read as Finot/Conq aft of the 2006-2012 window: about 11.48 m length, 3.91 m beam, and about 6.35 t mass. The yard does not publish a checkable series total here: a "how many built" line from a listing cannot be verified the way 602 can on the HR. Cards labelled Oceanis 37.1 and cards with open years from 2014, plus foreign Beneteau 37 labels without year and bureau on the plate, stay out of this pair. Reject Oceanis 37.1 and open years from 2014.

The deal splits earlier than a centimetre argument: a protected cockpit and 3.55 m at Ellös against a later French aft boat at 3.91 m. Hallberg-Rassy recognition and a pool of about 602 hulls on one side; a wider saloon and denser 2006-2012 volume listings on the other. This is not choosing who is shorter; it is choosing where you will stand on a storm watch and how deep the secondary market knows the badge.

After haul-out both need the same short era checklist: when the standing rigging was changed, where the deck is soft after frost, which winter invoices exist. On the HR side look separately at teak screws, the fittings that join shrouds to the hull, and whether Mk matches the stern photo. On the Oceanis side look separately at charter hours in papers, seals on the sail-drive (gondola drive through the bottom), draft from the factory plate, and screening out 37.1 together with open years from 2014.

A season in the class around 11-11.5 m takes money five times: berth, policy, haul with winter storage, money set aside for teak or sails, and money set aside for wire and engine. Read the bands below as a planning guide for the season, not as a price list that will be charged to you.

Listing price and an independent survey conclusion are not fixed here. Teak condition on the HR, wear in the drive seals on the Oceanis, and remaining wire life show after the haul, not from photos.

When to pick which

HR 36

Take the HR 36 if you need a Frers centre cockpit on 3.55 m in the 1989-2003 window with a series of about 602. Before a deposit start with the plate: hull number and a stern photo must pin the card to Mk I or Mk II, and Enderlein in the write-up must be dropped. Then wood and metal: teak screws, chainplates (fittings that join the shrouds to the hull), and dates on standing-rigging invoices.

Oceanis 37

Take the Oceanis 37 if you need a Finot/Conq aft of 2006-2012 at about 11.48×3.91 m. Before a deposit the plate must show exactly that bureau and year window; 37.1 and titles from 2014 fall away. From papers lift charter weeks and the year of the last wire change; take draft from the plate, not from listing copy.

Częste pytania

HR 36 or Oceanis 37 for Baltic ownership?
Pick the HR 36 (Germán Frers, 1989–2003, 602 Mk I/II, centre cockpit) when Baltic resale and protected living fit. Pick the Oceanis 37 (Finot/Conq, 2006–2012, 11.48×3.91, aft cockpit) when purchase price and family volume win. Reject Oceanis 37.1 / open 2014–. The fork is ownership culture and liquidity, not LOA alone.
What years and designers should I verify on the plate?
HR 36: Germán Frers, 1989–2003, 602 hulls (Mk I 1–256; Mk II 257–602) at hull about 10.87 / 11.31 m, beam 3.55 m. Oceanis 37: Finot/Conq, 2006–2012, about 11.48×3.91 m. Reject open 2014– Oceanis years and Oceanis 37.1 (Lombard, from 2023).
Is the Oceanis 37 the same as Oceanis 37.1?
No. This compare covers the Finot/Conq Oceanis 37 built 2006–2012. Oceanis 37.1 is a later Marc Lombard model from 2023. Do not mix plates, draft options, or systems lists.
What should a survey prioritise on these two?
On the HR 36 prioritise teak fasteners, chainplates, and standing-rigging age. On the Oceanis 37 prioritise charter weeks, saildrive seals, and standing-rigging age. Winter-storage history moves price on both.
How do annual Baltic ownership costs compare?
Plan berth, insurance, haul-out, teak or sail reserves, and rigging reserves in the bands on this page (about 80,000–200,000 SEK for the HR 36 and 75,000–200,000 SEK for the Oceanis 37). Major teak or sailwardrobe campaigns sit outside the annual band for both.
