Sailing courses in Greece

FairHelm schedules ISSA liveaboard courses in Greece each summer — island pilotage, anchoring in busy bays and coastal passage planning in the Aegean.

  • Saronic and Aegean islands — short tacks, thermal winds and crowded anchorages in season.
  • Liveaboard ISSA format: 7 days / 6 nights, max 4 students, Mindhelm debriefs.
  • Ideal for Inshore consolidation or Yacht Crew in warm water after Baltic intro.
  • Cross-read [ownership academy](/en/academy/yachts/) for Mediterranean buying context.

Why train in Greece?

Greek waters teach pilotage between islands, anchoring in tight bays and reading thermal wind — skills that transfer to Croatia and Turkey but with distinct chart habits and harbour etiquette. FairHelm weeks are liveaboard ISSA courses (Saturday to Saturday) with the same small-group standard as our Sweden and Croatia bases.

Courses we run in Greece

We offer Yacht Crew and Inshore Skipper weeks when demand and instructor routing align. Content follows ISSA syllabi with FairHelm editorial standards:

LevelEmphasis
Yacht CrewSafety, helming, sail trim, first multi-day rhythm
Inshore SkipperPassage plans, anchoring, marina calls, crew leadership

Dates may appear on the public schedule or via contact for bespoke weeks.

Season and logistics

Operating window mid-May through end of September. Early season offers quieter anchorages; August adds traffic that trains VHF discipline and patience.

Ownership angle: Greece is a common Mediterranean cruising and buying region. Pair your course with academy guides on survey cost, inspection red flags and model research before you shop listings.

Mindhelm in Greek waters

Island hops reward briefed roles and go/no-go calls when meltemi forecasts shift. Mindhelm debriefs capture what worked — not just miles logged.

Frequently asked questions

Which Greek areas does FairHelm use?
Bases vary by season — typically Saronic or Aegean island chains accessible from Athens-area airports. Exact marina instructions follow booking.
Do I need prior sailing experience?
Yacht Crew accepts motivated beginners. Inshore Skipper requires Yacht Crew or equivalent competence — contact us if unsure.
How does Greece compare to Croatia for training?
Both are warm-water ISSA weeks. Greece emphasises open Aegean passages and island pilotage; Croatia adds dense Dalmatian stern-to marina traffic.
