Contest 57CS

Fråga om den här modellen

Svar inom 2-3 dagar.

This is the card for the sailing yacht Contest 57CS. The hull is the same in two yard documents: the sheet signed Contest Yachts, January 2017, and the earlier range card in the Contest 52MC brochure (both opened on 18 October 2026). There the length is 17.23 m, the waterline 15.55 m, the beam 5.12 m, the displacement 27,900 kg, the bulb draft 2.49 m and the ballast 10,900 kg. They name different engines: the January 2017 sheet names a Volvo Penta D3-150 at 110 kW and 150 hp, and the earlier card in the 52MC brochure names a Perkins at 111 kW and 150 hp. The fresh-water tank also splits: 903 litres on the January 2017 sheet and 900 litres in the 52MC brochure. The yard specification is two documents, and the engine in this boat's engine room shows which one the hull belongs to.

The water figures in the two documents differ by 3 litres, and the engines are named differently. A listing that prints one of those figures without the other does not yet describe the boat. If the engine make in the listing matches neither document, the next step is a listing review. There is no dated yard invoice for a year of owning this model, so the card prints no annual sum.

Designhistoria

The sheet signed Contest Yachts, January 2017, describes the Contest 57CS as a boat of the Contest yard in Medemblik. Hull and deck are a vacuum-infused sandwich on vinylester resin, with solid laminate in the keel area. The sheet calls the keel a performance keel, with a lead bulb. The rudder blade is a fully balanced composite spade on JEFA bearings. There are two helm positions. The CE category is A, which the sheet calls unlimited ocean voyages. The mast rises 27.31 m above the waterline, the mainsail is 101 m2, the 112% genoa is 84 m2, and the fuel tank is 931 litres. The same sheet draws five layouts, A, B, C, D and E. The letter is chosen when the boat is ordered, so two boats of the model need not match inside.

The sheet names neither a designer nor any years, so the passport does not store them. The directory boat-specs.com, last updated on 19 March 2020, prints Georg Nissen Yacht Design, a first hull in 2010, and a note that production continues. The yard history page, opened on 18 October 2026, places the Contest 57CS on the 2010 line: that is when the wraparound coachroof and the flush-deck detailing appeared. On that page the name Georg Nissen stands beside the 2013 Contest 52MC, not beside the 57CS. Cruising World, Carol Vernon, 17 November 2009, calls the boat a Georg Nissen design and a smaller Contest 62. Those are three witnesses beside a silent sheet. They are not copied into the passport.

The address sailboatdata.com/sailboat/contest-57cs/ returned a 404 on 18 October 2026, so it cannot be a second witness. boat-specs agrees with the January 2017 sheet on the water volume, 903 litres, and gives the engine power as 150 hp with no make. It does not choose between Volvo and Perkins.

Typiska problem

Köparfrågor

Which engine is on the Contest 57CS?

The yard documents name two different ones. The January 2017 sheet names a Volvo Penta D3-150 at 110 kW and 150 hp. The earlier card in the Contest 52MC brochure names a Perkins at 111 kW and 150 hp. boat-specs.com, updated on 19 March 2020, prints 150 hp with no make. The plate on the engine in that boat's engine room shows what is aboard.

How much fresh water does the boat carry?

The January 2017 sheet prints a tank of 903 litres. The 52MC brochure prints 900 litres. boat-specs.com repeats 903 litres. These are figures from two different documents. The mean of 900 and 903 is not printed on the card.

Who is the designer, and from which year is the model?

The January 2017 sheet does not say, so the passport leaves the cells empty. boat-specs.com, dated 19 March 2020, names Georg Nissen Yacht Design and a first hull in 2010. The yard history page, opened on 18 October 2026, places the 57CS on the 2010 line and gives the name Georg Nissen only beside the 2013 Contest 52MC. Cruising World, Carol Vernon, 17 November 2009, also names Georg Nissen. Those lines are not copied into the passport.

What does the model passport store?

Length 17.23 m, beam 5.12 m, waterline 15.55 m, displacement 27,900 kg, draft 2.49 m and ballast 10,900 kg. The hull material is fibreglass. The designer cell is empty, and so are the years. A hull count is not stored: the yard sheet does not print one.

Årliga ägarkostnader

There is no dated yard invoice for a year of keeping a Contest 57CS in the bank. The card does not print an annual sum.

A berth and insurance depend on the harbour and on which of the five layouts in the January 2017 sheet was ordered. The draft of 2.49 m and the mast height of 27.31 m are taken from that same sheet. Ask for a berth price against that draft and that mast. Engine service follows the plate on this hull, not a mean of Perkins and Volvo.

Indicative figure for weekend use. The country supplies berth and winter. The insurance line stays the Swedish planning band - not a Danish, German, or Dutch premium. Maintenance stays Swedish too. Not a marina quote.

Checklista före köp

  1. Read the plate on the engine and check it against both yard documents: Volvo Penta D3-150 at 110 kW on the January 2017 sheet, or Perkins at 111 kW in the 52MC brochure.
  2. Do not average 900 and 903 litres. The water figure in a listing should match the document the engine points to.
  3. Check the layout letter, from A to E, against what is on board. The letters are drawn on the January 2017 sheet.
  4. Do not copy the name Georg Nissen or the year 2010 into the model passport only because a directory names them. The January 2017 sheet does not print those cells.
  5. The name on the card is Contest 57CS. The address is contest-57. A different length in a listing is a reason to read that hull's own sheet.
  6. The fuel tank in both yard documents is 931 litres. A different fuel figure in a listing belongs to that hull, not to a new average for the model.

A mistake in the engine costs more than the other points. The parts and the survey list will have been chosen for a machine that may not be aboard, and the deposit is already gone.
