Contest 62CS

This Contest 62CS card is for a buyer whose listing says 60CS or 60/62CS and gives a length of 18.80 m. It is not a second model next to the 62CS: the pre-series 60CS brochure printed 18.80 m, while the series 62CS specification gives 19.18 m with the same 16.80 m waterline and 5.45 m beam. The first hull was launched on 4 March 2008 as a Contest 60CS; by September 2009 the yard's website showed the same boat as the 62CS.
| What to check | Pre-series 60CS / listings | Series 62CS (Firros + boat-specs) |
|---|---|---|
| Name | Contest 60CS, sometimes 60/62CS in listings | Contest 62CS |
| Length | 18.80 m per the pre-series 60CS brochure | 19.18 m |
| Waterline and beam | 16.80 m and 5.45 m | 16.80 m and 5.45 m |
| Displacement | 31,000 kg in the Contest range table, with 68,563 lbs beside it; about 32 t in a yard-broker listing | 31,100 kg |
Waterline and beam are the same in both columns, while the length differs by 38 centimetres. That is what a name change looks like, not a different hull. The 31,000 kg figure from the range table does not contradict the series figure either: 68,563 pounds in the same row is 31,100 kg, and the kilograms there are simply rounded. Only the cells where the Firros dealer page and the boat-specs reference print the same number go into the model passport: length 19.18 m, beam 5.45 m, waterline 16.80 m, draught 2.65 m, displacement 31,100 kg, ballast 11,500 kg, fixed keel. Designer, build years and hull material stay empty, because the sources have no single agreed line for them.
SailWiki agrees with these two sources on length, beam, draught and displacement, but prints 4 cabins. The yard itself offered layouts with 3, 4 and 5 cabins, so a reference cannot tell you the cabin count of a particular boat. Engine and tanks also differ between sheets: some show a Perkins, others a Yanmar, and each source has its own fuel and water volumes. These figures are not averaged; they are checked against the plate and documents of the hull that is being sold.
If the listing says 60CS and 18.80 m, and the seller's papers do not show which length is in the registration, the next step is a listing review. There is no dated yard invoice for a year of owning this model, so the card carries no annual total.

Designhistoria
The series figures come from the "Contest 62CS" page of the dealer Firros Yachts (firrosyachts.com, opened 25 October 2026). It gives length 19.18 m, waterline 16.80 m, beam 5.45 m, standard-keel draught 2.65 m, displacement 31,100 kg, ballast 11,500 kg, mainsail 108 m², 110% genoa 93 m², a 150 hp (109 kW) Perkins engine, water 1,634 litres, fuel 1,695 litres, CE category A. The second source for the passport is boat-specs.com, the page "Contest 62CS Standard", last updated 19 March 2020. The hull there is the same: 19.18 m, 16.80 m, 5.45 m, 2.65 m, 31,100 kg and 11,500 kg, with the same sails. The keel is called fin with bulb, the designer is Georg Nissen Yacht Design, and cabins run from 3 to 5. Tanks and engine differ: fuel 1,513 litres, water 950 litres, a 160 hp engine. boat-specs also says the boat was first built in 2007 and is still in production. In 2020 that was so, but the 62CS is no longer in the current model range on contestyachts.com.
The history of the name is reconstructed by Hulls.io (opened 25 October 2026), which cites Contest sheets from January 2010 and January 2017. The first hull was launched on 4 March 2008 as a Contest 60CS. By September 2009 the yard's website showed the same boat as the 62CS. The pre-series 60CS brochure printed a length of 18.80 m with the same 16.80 m waterline and the same 5.45 m beam. From the two sheets Hulls.io gives the same 19.18 m and 2.65 m for the standard keel, plus a shoal keel with 2.20 m draught and 12,000 kg ballast, a 29.21 m mast and five layouts, A to E. The engine differs between the two sheets: Perkins M150 in 2010, Yanmar 6BY3-160 in 2017. Fuel and water volumes also change from sheet to sheet. The designer is named as Georg Nissen, and the interior on the 2010 sheet was drawn by Birgit Schnaase.
The earliest printed trace is a note by Mark Pillsbury in Cruising World, December 2008. The magazine says the first hull had been in the water since March and that Contest planned to show the new 60CS at the HISWA show in September. Georg Nissen is named as designer there too. The order position at that date is not carried to the card: it describes the order book, not the result of a series.
The MAIN DIMENSIONS table in the Contest catalogue on NauticExpo (PDF opened 25 October 2026) gives displacement of 31,000 kg and, in the same row, 68,563 lbs. The pounds convert exactly to 31,100 kg, so the kilograms in the table are rounded and the table does not contradict the series figure. The same catalogue has standard and shoal draught with ballast for each, a Yanmar in the engine row, a hull of vacuum-infused sandwich under Lloyd's supervision, and the category unlimited ocean.
SailWiki (opened 25 October 2026) prints 19.18 m, 5.45 m, 2.65 m and 31,100 kg, a fixed keel, fibreglass, CE category A, the same sails, 4 cabins and the period 2013-2023. It has no waterline, ballast or designer, and the tanks are given as one litre each, which cannot be counted as data.
The yard's brokerage service, Contest Brokerage, sells a 2008 hull already under the name Contest 62CS: 19.18 x 5.45 x 2.65 m, designer Georg Nissen, ballast about 11.5 t, displacement "about 32 t", a 185 hp Perkins engine. The last two figures belong to that boat and are written approximately, so they do not go into the model passport. What the listing does show is something else: a 2008 boat, launched in the year when the model was still called the 60CS, is sold under the new name and with the series length.
Only the cells where Firros and boat-specs print the same number go into the passport: length 19.18 m, waterline 16.80 m, beam 5.45 m, draught 2.65 m, displacement 31,100 kg, ballast 11,500 kg. The keel is recorded as fixed: boat-specs says fin with bulb, SailWiki says Fixed, and Firros gives the standard-keel draught. The shoal-keel draught of 2.20 m is empty: Firros and the standard version of boat-specs have no such line. Designer, years and material are empty because the Firros page has no such cells, and the years disagree elsewhere: boat-specs says 2007, Cruising World says launch in 2008, SailWiki says 2013-2023. FairHelm has a separate Contest 60CS card at contest-60. Its figures do not merge with this card.

Köparfrågor
- Are the Contest 60CS and Contest 62CS two different models?
No, it is one name before and after a change. The first hull was launched on 4 March 2008 as a Contest 60CS, and by September 2009 the yard's website showed it as the 62CS. The 16.80 m waterline and 5.45 m beam are the same under both names. The yard's broker sells a 2008 hull already as a Contest 62CS.
- Which length should I use - 18.80 m or 19.18 m?
18.80 m was printed by the pre-series 60CS brochure. The series specification on the Firros page and in boat-specs gives 19.18 m. For berthing and insurance, the length recorded in the documents of the particular hull decides. If the listing says 18.80 m, ask for the registration papers and check the figure against them.
- Why does the passport say 31,100 kg when the Contest range table says 31,000 kg?
In the same row of the NauticExpo table stands 68,563 lbs, which is exactly 31,100 kg. The kilograms in the table are rounded. Firros and boat-specs print 31,100 kg. "About 32 t" in the broker's listing describes one boat and is written approximately.
- How many cabins does the Contest 62CS have?
It depends on the hull. boat-specs gives 3 to 5 cabins, Hulls.io, from the yard sheets, names five layouts, A to E, and SailWiki prints a single figure - 4. How many cabins the boat for sale has can only be seen aboard and in its documents.
- Which engine is in the 62CS - Perkins or Yanmar?
It differs between sheets. Firros says a 150 hp Perkins, the 2010 sheet via Hulls.io says Perkins M150, the 2017 sheet says Yanmar 6BY3-160, boat-specs says 160 hp. On the 2008 boat at the yard's broker there is a 185 hp Perkins. The answer is on the engine plate of the particular hull.
- What does the model passport hold?
Length 19.18 m, waterline 16.80 m, beam 5.45 m, draught 2.65 m, displacement 31,100 kg, ballast 11,500 kg and a fixed keel. Shoal-keel draught, designer, years and material are empty, and the passport carries no production total.
Årliga ägarkostnader
There is no dated yard invoice for a year of keeping a Contest 62CS in the bank. The card does not print an annual total.
The berth price is asked for at a length of 19.18 m, not the 18.80 m of the pre-series 60CS brochure. If the marina charges by the metre, the 38-centimetre difference can move the boat into another price line, and a quote received for 18.80 m will have to be recalculated. Draught is taken from the keel of this hull: 2.65 m for the standard one. Hulls.io gives the mast height from the yard sheets as 29.21 m; before going under bridges or into marinas with a limit, check it against the boat's documents.
Insurance is calculated from the length and displacement in the hull's papers. Engine service depends on what stands in the engine room: Perkins per the Firros page and the 2010 sheet, Yanmar 6BY3-160 per the 2017 sheet, a 185 hp Perkins on the 2008 hull at the yard's broker. Tank volume for fuel calculations is also taken from the boat: Firros, boat-specs and the yard sheets give different figures.

Indicative figure for weekend use. The country supplies berth and winter. The insurance line stays the Swedish planning band - not a Danish, German, or Dutch premium. Maintenance stays Swedish too. Not a marina quote.

Checklista före köp
- Compare the name in the listing with the documents. "60CS" or "60/62CS" on a hull of the early years is a normal part of the model's history, but the registration must carry one name, and the seller must be able to show it.
- Find the length in the registration papers. 18.80 m is the figure of the pre-series 60CS brochure, 19.18 m is the series 62CS specification. Berthing and insurance are calculated from the one recorded in the hull's documents.
- Check the 16.80 m waterline and the 5.45 m beam. They are the same under both names. If the listing shows a different figure, that is a reason to ask for the yard's documents for this hull.
- Confirm the draught: Firros and the standard version of boat-specs say 2.65 m. A different figure in the listing is a reason to ask which keel is on this boat.
- Look at the engine plate. Perkins or Yanmar, 150, 160 or 185 hp - different variants appear across sheets and listings, and service follows what is aboard.
- Count the cabins aboard. The yard offered five layouts, references print 3 to 5 cabins, SailWiki prints 4.
- Do not carry "about 32 t" from the broker's listing or 31,000 kg from the range table into the model passport. The series displacement is 31,100 kg, and the 68,563 lbs in the same table confirm it.
- Do not take the order position from the December 2008 Cruising World note as the result of the series. The yard does not publish a production total.
An error in length costs more than the other items. The marina quote, the insurance and the delivery budget will all be calculated for 18.80 m while the boat's documents say 19.18 m, and this comes out when the deposit has already been paid.
