Contest 72CS

Fråga om den här modellen

The Contest 72CS card is for a buyer who saw "Displacement 16,500 kg" on the Contest Yachts UK page and decided they knew the hull weight. On the MAIN DIMENSIONS sheet in the yard brochure the displacement is 44,300 kg, and 16,500 kg is the ballast of the standard bulb keel. The same 44,300 / 16,500 figures are printed by boat-specs. SailWiki gives a displacement of 44,300 kg and does not print ballast.

Length, beam, draft and waterline match. The label on 16,500 kg diverges. The gap between 16.5 t and 44.3 t is no longer a rounding question: cranes, trailers and insurance count in different orders of magnitude. The Ancasta dealer repeats the same table error: "Displacement 16,500kg".

A listing that gives the 72CS at a weight of "about 16 tonnes" is a reason to ask the seller where the figure comes from and whether there is a weighing certificate. If the documents do not answer that, the next step is a listing review. There is no dated yard invoice for a year of upkeep of this model, so the card carries no annual sum.

Designhistoria

The Contest 72CS hull belongs to the Georg Nissen Yacht Design line: so boat-specs, opened on 25 October 2026. This is not judel/vrolijk: Contest's first collaboration with that office is the 67CS, not the 72. On the Contest 72CS marketing page the boat is described as a semi-custom 70-foot flagship with a wide choice of layouts. Passport figures are not on the landing page.

The fullest dimensions document is the MAIN DIMENSIONS sheet in the yard brochure. Besides length 21.80 m, waterline 18.99 m, beam 5.70 m, draft 2.80 m, displacement 44,300 kg and ballast 16,500 kg, it lists a 31.20 m mast, a 133 m² mainsail, a 111% genoa of 129 m², 1,700 liters of fuel and 1,600 liters of water. Contest Yachts UK and boat-specs repeat the sails 133 / 129 and fuel 1,700, but give water as 1,018 liters. Water figures side by side are not averaged.

The engine floats too. The yard brochure names a Perkins 161 kW / 216 hp, Contest Yachts UK a Volvo Penta 234 hp, boat-specs 225 HP without a make in the power line. Makes and powers are not averaged: which one is on the boat shows on the engine plate.

On layout the sources give a range. Contest Yachts UK writes "Three + Crew": six berths plus two for crew and allows four guest cabins in the text. boat-specs lists cabins 3-5. SailWiki prints four cabins. How many cabins a particular boat has can only be seen on board.

Only cells where the yard brochure agrees with boat-specs go into the passport: length 21.80 m, beam 5.70 m, waterline 18.99 m, draft 2.80 m, displacement 44,300 kg, ballast 16,500 kg and a fixed bulb keel. The UK label "Displacement 16,500 kg" does not go into the displacement cell: that is the ballast figure from the sheet. The designer is named in the text from boat-specs, but the cells for designer, years and material stay empty. SailWiki prints fiberglass, CE A and a period "2013 - now", boat-specs first built 2012, but the brochure sheet has none of these cells. Fuel and water on SailWiki are listed as "1 l" , a directory error. No source gives a built-hull count.

Köparfrågor

How much does the Contest 72CS weigh - 16,500 or 44,300 kg?

Displacement by the yard brochure and boat-specs is 44,300 kg. 16,500 kg is the ballast of the standard bulb keel on the same sheet. Contest Yachts UK, opened on 25 October 2026, puts 16,500 kg in the Displacement cell. The passport records displacement 44,300 kg and ballast 16,500 kg separately.

Why does the UK dealer's Displacement match the sheet's ballast?

Because the wrong row landed in the table. The yard sheet separates Displacement 44,300 kg and Ballast bulb keel 16,500 kg. The Ancasta dealer repeats the same 16,500 kg label. The figures are not averaged and not "corrected" in silence: the error is named.

Which engine does the 72CS have - Perkins or Volvo?

The sources diverge. The yard brochure names a Perkins 161 kW / 216 hp, Contest Yachts UK a Volvo Penta 234 hp, boat-specs 225 HP. The card does not choose and does not average. Make and power on a given boat are shown by the engine plate and the service book.

How much water in the tanks - 1,600 or 1,018 liters?

The yard brochure gives 1,600 liters. Contest Yachts UK and boat-specs give 1,018 liters. Figures side by side are not averaged. The volume on a given boat shows in the passport and the tank calibration.

How many cabins does the Contest 72CS have?

Contest Yachts UK writes "Three + Crew" and in the text allows four guest cabins. boat-specs lists 3-5. SailWiki prints four. How many cabins a particular boat has can only be seen on board.

What does the model passport hold?

Length 21.80 m, beam 5.70 m, waterline 18.99 m, draft 2.80 m, displacement 44,300 kg, ballast 16,500 kg and a fixed keel. Designer, years and material are empty. There is no built-hull count. The yard does not publish a production total.

Årliga ägarkostnader

There is no dated yard invoice for a year of upkeep of the Contest 72CS in the bank. The card does not print an annual sum.

Berthing is quoted on the length of 21.80 m from the yard sheet. For lifting and insurance you need the displacement of 44,300 kg and the draft of 2.80 m, not the "16,500 kg" from the UK dealer's table. The mast by the brochure is 31.20 m. Engine service is counted from the plate on board: in the sources there are Perkins and Volvo at different powers. Fuel by the sheet and the UK dealer is 1,700 liters. Water is taken from the boat's documents: 1,600 or 1,018 liters diverge in the sources.

Checklista före köp

  1. Ask where the 16,500 kg figure in the listing or on the dealer's site comes from. On the yard sheet that is ballast, and displacement is 44,300 kg. If the seller calls 16.5 t the full weight, ask for a weighing certificate or a class record for this hull.
  2. Compare length, beam, draft and waterline with 21.80 / 5.70 / 2.80 / 18.99 m. These cells match across the brochure, the UK dealer and boat-specs.
  3. Look at the engine plate. The brochure names Perkins, the UK dealer Volvo. The service book must match the make on the plate.
  4. Compare the water volume in the documents with the tank passport. 1,600 liters from the brochure and 1,018 from UK/boat-specs are not averaged.
  5. Count the cabins on board. "Three + Crew" at the UK dealer does not rule out four- and five-cabin layouts on a particular boat.
  6. Ask for the Lloyd's documents for this hull. Contest Yachts UK states Lloyd's A1 certification.
  7. Do not carry over the "1 l" tanks from SailWiki and do not count built hulls: the yard does not publish a production total.

A mistake in the weight costs more than the other points. A crane, trailer and policy counted on 16.5 t instead of 44.3 t break the deal after the deposit is paid.
