Spinnaker
Spinnakers on sailing yachts: symmetric and asymmetric use, packing checks, survey limits, and FairHelm caution on unused "included" sails.
这是什么
A spinnaker is a light, full downwind sail set forward of the forestay area, either symmetric with a pole or asymmetric (often called a gennaker / A-sail) flown more like a reaching genoa.
Anchor
Many Baltic cruising inventories FairHelm sees include a bagged sail that has not left the locker in years. Soft patches, broken tapes, and missing sheets or poles turn "includes spinnaker" into dead weight. Asymmetrics on sprits are a different gear set than classic symmetric poles.
FairHelm judgment
FairHelm judgment: treat unused coloured nylon as a maybe, not a value adder, until cloth and flying gear are checked. A bag photo is not a hoist test. Confirm turtle, snuffer, or furler hardware if claimed.
Limits
We do not invent wind-range tables for every cut. Crew skill and boat stability bound safe use. This is not a racing trim manual.
常见问题
Q: Is a gennaker the same as a spinnaker?
A: Related family. Asymmetric cuts and tack points differ from classic symmetric spinnakers.
Q: Does "includes spinnaker" raise survey value automatically?
A: Only if cloth and gear work. Otherwise it is clutter.
Q: Can I inspect it bagged?
A: Spot-check edges. Full judgment needs a flake or hoist.
