Antifouling
Antifouling on sailing yachts: role, survey reading of paint history, and FairHelm caution on claiming remaining seasons from photos.
ما هذا
Antifouling is coating below the waterline designed to slow barnacles, weed, and slime. It is maintenance chemistry, not structural repair and not a cure for wet laminate.
Anchor
Northern European seasons often mean one haul-out cycle for scrub and paint. Hard racing finishes and soft self-polishing systems both appear on Baltic cruisers. FairHelm reads yard invoices and thickness notes when present.
FairHelm judgment
FairHelm judgment: fresh paint can hide blister history and poorly prepared epoxy. Ask what was sanded, whether a barrier coat exists, and how many seasons the current system has run. Do not price the boat on "just painted" alone.
Limits
We do not invent average cost per metre or claim one brand always lasts two seasons. Local fouling pressure, copper rules, and application quality dominate.
الأسئلة الشائعة
Q: Does antifouling fix osmosis?
A: No. It manages growth. Osmosis needs laminate diagnosis and, if needed, barrier work.
Q: Is bare gelcoat better than antifouling?
A: For growth control, no. Some race boats scrub often instead. Cruisers usually paint.
Q: Can I judge remaining life from listing photos?
A: Only weakly. Ask haul-out date, product, and prep notes.
