Mooring Mastery

What you get

  • Reliable technique for Mediterranean (stern-to) mooring, parallel berthing, and picking up mooring buoys
  • Understanding of wind, current, and "rule of retreat" (when to abort and try again)
  • Knots and line handling (Round Turn and Two Half Hitches, bowline, clove hitch, etc.)
  • Briefing, roles, and hand signals for safe crew coordination
  • Practice in crosswind, current, and narrow harbours

Content summary

  • Theory: Forces (wind, current, drift), anatomy of berths and buoys, critical knots, pre-approach checklist
  • Types: Med mooring (stern-to with anchor or lazy lines), stern-to on buoy, parallel berthing, bow-to
  • Skills: Picking up a mooring (bow and stern method), anchor and chain handling, fenders
  • Scenarios: Engine failure, dragging anchor, line in propeller, communication with dock hand
