This is the card for the Contest 49CS sailboat. A buyer sees 16.10 m in the listing and decides it is a longer sister boat. The yard sheet for September 2026 gives 15.20 m as the hull length and 16.10 m as the length with the bowsprit. The sailboatdata reference, opened on 17 October 2026, labels the same metres differently: there 16.10 m is the overall length and 15.20 m is the length on deck. Beam 4.90 m, waterline 14.50 m and draft 2.35 m are the same in both sources. On displacement there is no agreement: the sheet prints 20,900 kg, the reference 22,900 kg, and the British dealer's page 11,000 kg. The average of the three does not go into the passport. The passport keeps a hull length of 15.20 m, and the displacement field stays empty.

The four weights in the table cannot be reduced to one. The sheet names the engine as a Yanmar 4JH110, 81 kW (110 hp), the reference as a Yanmar 4JH4 at 110 hp, and the British page as 54 hp. If the length or weight in a listing matches none of the rows, the next step is a listing review. There is no dated yard invoice for a year of ownership, so the card prints no annual sum.

Design history

The Contest 49CS is built at the Contest yard in Medemblik. The September 2026 sheet describes the hull and deck as a sandwich moulded by Conyplex vacuum infusion on vinylester resin. Around the keel the laminate is solid. The sheet names the keel as a performance keel with a lead bulb, bolted through that solid laminate. The same sheet lists carbon-reinforced stiffeners. The rudder is a fully balanced composite blade. Mast height is 24.60 m. Mainsail 73 m², 106% genoa 60 m². The sailboatdata reference, opened on 17 October 2026, prints a total sail area of 133 m² and says it includes the 106% genoa. The sheet gives CE category A, unlimited ocean passages, and a Lloyd's certificate for the hull. The sheet has no ballast weight in kilograms.

The designer and the years are not in the passport. The sheet does not name them. The yard's model page and the reference, both opened on 17 October 2026, give the studio name as judel/vrolijk. A Jachtbouw Nederland note of 16 May 2022 also names Judel/Vrolijk and says the 49CS was already in build and that the models had been presented a year earlier. The reference puts the first build in 2022. The average of these dates does not become the model year. According to the sheet, the interior is made at the yard in Medemblik, there are several layouts, and the owner chooses the colour. The model page calls the 49CS the yard's first yacht with two aft cabins at this length and says the 49CS and 50CS share one hull design. That phrase does not create a second URL. The name on the card is Contest 49CS, the address is contest-49.

The model page prints that the boat sails nine knots to windward at 30 degrees apparent wind. That is the yard's phrase, not a sea trial report. The quotes from Toby Hodges and Alexander Worms, chosen for the page, are there too. The hull count is on neither the sheet nor the open reference page. It is not carried onto the card. The British page prints three cabins, the NauticExpo catalogue four. The sheet says only that there are several layouts.

Buyer FAQ

Why does the listing say 15.20 m in one place and 16.10 m in another?

It is one hull with two labels. The September 2026 sheet gives 15.20 m as the hull length and 16.10 m as the length with the bowsprit. The sailboatdata reference, opened on 17 October 2026, gives 16.10 m as the overall length and 15.20 m as the length on deck. The figure 16.10 m on its own does not name a longer sister boat.

What displacement is in the passport?

None. The sheet prints 20,900 kg, the reference 22,900 kg, the British dealer page 11,000 kg, NauticExpo 21.5 t. The sources were opened on 17 October 2026, and the sheet is dated September 2026. The passport holds no average of these rows.

How many Contest 49CS hulls have been built?

There is no verified hull count. The September 2026 sheet does not print one. The sailboatdata page, opened on 17 October 2026, has no hull-count field. The number is not carried onto the card.

What is stored in the card's passport?

Hull length 15.20 m, beam 4.90 m, waterline 14.50 m, draft 2.35 m, material fibreglass. Empty fields: displacement, designer, years, ballast, hull count, second draft. The engine is not in the passport: the sheet gives a Yanmar 4JH110 at 110 hp, the reference a Yanmar 4JH4 at 110 hp, the British page 54 hp.

Annual ownership costs

The bank has no dated yard invoice for a year of keeping a Contest 49CS. The card prints no annual sum.

A berth depends on this hull's draft. The sheet and the reference, checked on 17 October 2026, agree on 2.35 m. The British page printed 2.20 m the same day, and that figure is not in the passport. The 24.60 m mast on the sheet and in the reference narrows the choice of bridges. Ask for the berth price against the draft and mast of the specific hull.

Calculators for this boat

Indicative figure for weekend use. The country supplies berth and winter. The insurance line stays the Swedish planning band - not a Danish, German, or Dutch premium. Maintenance stays Swedish too. Not a marina quote.

  • Netherlands (annual contract)€7,700 - €11,625
  • Sweden (planning bands)€10,100 - €15,600
  • Denmark (two harbours, season)€7,717 - €11,548

Pre-purchase survey checklist

  1. Check which length the listing gives: 15.20 m for the hull or 16.10 m with the bowsprit, per the September 2026 sheet. A third figure is a reason to read the specification of that hull.
  2. Do not average the displacement. Four rows, sources opened on 17 October 2026: 20,900 kg on the sheet, 22,900 kg in the reference, 11,000 kg on the British page, 21.5 t in the NauticExpo catalogue.
  3. The draft in the passport is 2.35 m, because the sheet and the reference both print it. The 2.20 m figure from the British page does not mean a second keel for the model.
  4. Leave the year empty. The reference puts the first build in 2022. The note of 16 May 2022 says the models were presented a year earlier. The sheet has no year.
  5. The name on the card is Contest 49CS. The address is contest-49. A different name, or a length outside 15.20 m and 16.10 m, is a reason to read the specification of that hull.

A buyer who takes 16.10 m for a longer sister boat, or 11,000 kg for the model's weight, will assess the wrong boat before ever inspecting the keel bolts.
