VAT-paid status (used yacht EU)
VAT-paid status on used EU yachts: what the phrase means for buyers, paperwork risk, and Baltic brokerage practice — not tax advice.
Qué es
VAT-paid status (broker shorthand) means the seller asserts that EU VAT was accounted for on the yacht in a way relevant to private EU use. FairHelm does not give tax advice. We treat the phrase as a claim that must match documents, not as a finished legal fact from a listing headline.
What buyers should ask
Request written confirmation of the VAT position, prior registration history, and any import or temporary admission paperwork. Cross-check flag, berth country, and seller entity (private vs company). Baltic brokerage often mixes Swedish, Danish, German and Polish paperwork — mismatches are common and negotiable only after documents are in hand.
Limits
Online summaries cannot replace a local tax advisor or yacht solicitor for import, commercial use, or company ownership. Survey condition and VAT status are separate tracks: a dry hull with unclear VAT still blocks a clean purchase timeline.
Buying implications
Do not wire a deposit solely on "VAT paid" in the advert. Build a document checklist before haul-out so survey money is not spent on a deal that cannot clear paperwork. FairHelm advisory can help sequence questions; it does not stamp VAT as paid.
Preguntas frecuentes
Q: Does EU flag prove VAT paid?
A: No. Flag and VAT history are related but not identical.
Q: Is "VAT paid" enough in the listing?
A: No. Ask for documents that match the claim before you commit survey spend.
Q: Can FairHelm certify VAT status?
A: No. We help you ask the right paperwork questions; tax confirmation is outside our survey and editorial scope.
