AIS transceiver

AIS transceivers on sailing yachts: Class B send/receive role, antenna checks, survey limits, and clear separation from any FairHelm map product.

ما هذا

An AIS transceiver is shipboard Automatic Identification System equipment that receives other vessels' position reports and, when transmitting (typically Class B on leisure yachts), broadcasts this boat's identity and motion for nearby traffic.

Anchor

Class B send/receive units are common on cruising boats FairHelm surveys in Northern Europe. Receive-only boxes also appear. Performance depends on a sound VHF antenna path, GPS fix quality, and correct static data (MMSI, ship type), not on a marketing screenshot.

FairHelm judgment

FairHelm judgment: silent transmit, wrong MMSI, and shared or corroded antenna splitters are survey items. This DefinedTerm describes equipment on the yacht. It is not a FairHelm AIS map, traffic app, or live vessel-tracking product. Do not read this page as a product claim for any FairHelm map.

Limits

We do not invent detection ranges or claim Class B equals commercial Class A coverage. Regulatory duties vary by flag and voyage. Confirm carriage rules with the authority for that trip.

الأسئلة الشائعة

Q: Is an AIS transceiver the same as a FairHelm map?
A: No. This page is only the onboard radio equipment DefinedTerm. FairHelm does not claim an AIS vessel-map product here.

Q: Does receive-only count as a transceiver?
A: Strictly, transceiver means send and receive. Receive-only is a receiver. Listings blur the words; verify transmit.

Q: Can the plotter screen prove AIS transmit?
A: Seeing targets is receive. Confirm your boat appears to others or check the unit status.
