Ask about this model

We reply within 2-3 days.

On the Sun Odyssey 33 badge the years used to be 1992-1997, the length 10.30 m, the beam 3.50 m. Now the live opening and the chips print one Scandinavian template: 2000-2010, about 240-960 hulls, 10 m, 3.2 m, about 5,200 kg. The card file and Wikipedia still hold the designer Daniel Andrieu, the yard Jeanneau in France, a greatest length of 10.30 m (33.79 feet), a waterline of 8.04 m, and a displacement of 4,700 kg. These pages do not print a beam of 3.2 m or a weight of about 5,200 kg.

This page is for someone reading a Sun Odyssey 33 advert who has not yet checked the year on the plate against the length 10.30 m. We do not put the template years or the hull band here.

Offshore rating & survey verdict

Top 3 survey red flags

  1. The Sun Odyssey 33i is another boat.
  2. The designer is Marc Lombard, Wikipedia's years start in 2008, the overall length is 9.96 m.
  3. The letter "i" there means the deck was injected under pressure.

Design history

The ouest-atlantis catalogue puts the years 1991-1993 and the number 290 on the same line. An inserted text on the same page says "built from 1992 to 1997" and also that this is the only boat with four volumes shorter than 10 m. The table beside it prints 10.30 m. We do not take a start year or a hull count from there. Draught in the card file and at Wikipedia is 1.97 m, ballast 1,562 kg. In the catalogue the draught is 1.90 m and the ballast 1,520 kg. Those are figures of the Sun Liberty 34, not necessarily of this boat. We do not pick one draught. Sail area of 40 m² on the card and 53 m² in the catalogue we also do not collapse. These pages do not name an engine make for the 10.30 m boat. 18 horsepower is only at Wikipedia.

Wikipedia writes that the Sun Odyssey 33 grew out of the Sun Liberty 34 of 1989. That one has a length of 9.98 m, the same 3.50 m beam and the same 4,700 kg, a masthead topsail rather than a fractional one, 284 built, years 1989-1992. The card file adds that the Liberty was also sold as the Sun Odyssey 33/34. That is a note on that page, not the drawing of this one. A neighbouring catalogue line, the Sun Odyssey 33.1, is shorter: 9.95 m, 1994-1995. We did not open its page.

Typical problems

The Sun Odyssey 33i is another boat. The designer is Marc Lombard, Wikipedia's years start in 2008, the overall length is 9.96 m. The letter "i" there means the deck was injected under pressure. In the 2013 specification the hull is 9.74 m. That is not the advert with a length of 10.30 m. Before a deposit, the same stakes as on the live checklist: moisture at the forestay, the age of the rigging, saildrive service, without a kronor table that has no source.

Annual ownership costs

We do not carry over a kronor table that has no source.

Calculators for this boat

Indicative figure for weekend use. The country supplies berth and winter. The insurance line stays the Swedish planning band - not a Danish, German, or Dutch premium. Maintenance stays Swedish too. Not a marina quote.

  • Netherlands (annual contract)€4,480 - €7,571
  • Sweden (planning bands)€6,000 - €10,300
  • Denmark (two harbours, season)€4,590 - €7,497

Litres need waterline length and draft. This page only has length overall and beam, so litres are not calculated here.

Pre-purchase survey checklist

Before the advert, look at the year on the plate. 1992-1997 and 10.30 m are Andrieu. The line "2000-2010" and a beam of 3.2 m do not belong to this boat. The 33i is shorter and starts later. The Liberty is close in weight, but a third of a metre shorter.
