Ownership study
The Baltic "family thirties" filter often puts a Hanse 315 next to a Hallberg-Rassy 36. In the listings both ride as "thirty-something feet," and that is the only line where their lengths match. On the plate the argument is already different: 9.45 m of German aft cockpit against a Swedish centre cockpit in the class around 11 m. Until metres and cockpit are closed, the buyer is comparing the wrong length class, not the two forms in this pair.
In this pair the Hanse 315 is read only as Judel/Vrolijk with an aft cockpit from Greifswald, years 2006-2012, 9.45×3.20 m, about 4.3 t. Print run for this form is not confirmed by yard paper, so a hull count from a listing cannot be checked. Reject titles with 1995, the generation from 2016 near 9.62×3.35 m, and the false deck-saloon badge (as if a walk-through coachroof turned the boat into a deck saloon).
On the HR 36 side only the Frers centre cockpit from Ellös 1989-2003 works, with about 602 hulls. Size: 3.55 m beam and roughly 7.5 t. The step from Mk I (1-256, 1989-1994, hull about 10.87 m) to Mk II (257-602, 1994-2003, about 11.31 m) shows in the transom and aft platform - without hull number, year, and a stern photo the cards do not glue. If Enderlein appears in a write-up of this 36, the plate has not been read yet.
The dispute here is not "who is shorter in feet" but entry into a compact German aft at 9.45 m against a Swedish centre cockpit with recognisable secondary depth around 602. Berth and insurance feel the ~9.5 versus ~11 m class split at once; exit depth from the deal does too.
Once the boat is out of the water, three things are checked the same on both: how old the standing-rigging wire is, whether the deck dips after frost, and whether a folder of winter invoices exists. On the Hanse the main points are the keel-to-hull joint and how the stanchions sit in the deck; at the same time confirm you do not have a 1995 title, a 2016 generation, or a deck-saloon badge. On the HR the list is different: whether screws still hold the teak deck, the state of the metal fittings that join shrouds to the hull, and whether the stern matches the claimed Mk.
Season budget between these length classes is berth, policy, crane with winter storage, deck or teak reserve, wire and engine. The SEK bands below show order of magnitude only, not your marina invoice.
Listing price and what an independent survey will write are not decided on this page. The keel joint on the Hanse, remaining teak on the HR, and wire age become clear after the haul.
When to pick which
Hanse 315
Take the Hanse 315 for the compact Judel/Vrolijk aft at 9.45×3.20 m in the 2006-2012 window. Before a deposit, years and dimensions must match the plate, and titles with 1995, the 2016 generation at 9.62×3.35 m, and a deck-saloon badge leave the list. On the haul check the keel joint and stanchion bedding; from invoices take standing-rigging dates.
HR 36
Take the HR 36 when a protected Frers cockpit on 3.55 m, the 1989-2003 window, and a pool of about 602 hulls matter more. Before a deposit confirm Mk I or Mk II with hull number and a transom photo, drop Enderlein in the write-up, read teak and shroud fittings by hand, and take wire dates only from service papers.

Preguntas frecuentes
- Hanse 315 or HR 36 for Baltic ownership?
- Pick the Hanse 315 (Judel/Vrolijk, 2006–2012, 9.45×3.20, aft cockpit) when entry price and a compact coastal program fit. Pick the HR 36 (Germán Frers, 1989–2003, 602 Mk I/II, centre cockpit) when Nordic resale depth and protected living justify the premium. Reject Hanse 1995– years and 2016– mix-up. The fork is size, price, and ownership culture, not LOA alone.
- What years and designers should I verify on the plate?
- Hanse 315 (FairHelm): Judel/Vrolijk, 2006–2012, about 9.45×3.20 m. Reject 1995– years and the later 2016– Hanse 315 near 9.62×3.35 m. HR 36: Germán Frers, 1989–2003, 602 hulls (Mk I/II) at hull about 10.87 / 11.31 m, beam 3.55 m.
- Is the 2006 Hanse 315 the same as the 2016 Hanse 315?
- No. FairHelm covers the Judel/Vrolijk 2006–2012 generation at about 9.45×3.20 m. A later 2016– Hanse 315 sits near 9.62×3.35 m. Do not mix plates, keel options, or systems lists.
- What should a survey prioritise on these two?
- On the Hanse 315 prioritise keel joint, stanchion or track bedding after freeze seasons, and standing-rigging age. On the HR 36 prioritise teak fasteners, chainplates, and standing-rigging age. Winter-storage history moves price on both.
- How do annual Baltic ownership costs compare?
- Plan berth, insurance, haul-out, deck or teak reserves, and rigging reserves in the bands on this page (about 50,000–140,000 SEK for the Hanse 315 and 80,000–200,000 SEK for the HR 36). Major teak or keel campaigns sit outside the annual band for both.
