Pre-survey assessment
A FairHelm pre-survey assessment is remote buyer diligence before deposit or flights. We review listing and document gaps, walk red flags, and draft survey scope so haul-out day rates are not wasted. It is not a hull survey. Book by lead form against the published advisory menu; there is no separate Stripe product for this briefing.
Bookable by request. Pair with €49 listing review first when you only have a URL; full buyer consultation starts from €150.
How does pre-survey assessment work?
Send candidate links, VAT or title questions, and travel constraints. We reply with a written scope brief and go / pause / walk recommendation. When an independent surveyor is needed, we coordinate logistics separately from the advisory menu.
- Review listing and documents
Check VAT status, title chain, and photo consistency before scheduling travel.
- Run red-flag checklist
Apply hull, rig, engine, and seller-behaviour checks on first viewing or remote photos.
- Draft survey scope
Define haul-out, moisture mapping, oil analysis, and sea trial requirements for the surveyor.
- Book independent survey
Commission a surveyor who does not sell the boat. FairHelm can coordinate logistics.
What we cover
Listing vs photo consistency, VAT and title gaps visible from paperwork, red-flag hull/rig/engine cues, haul-out and moisture or oil-analysis notes for the surveyor, and whether a sea trial should be in scope. FairHelm coordinates independent surveyors; we do not survey boats we sell.
What this assessment is not
Not a moisture meter visit, not oil analysis, not legal title opinion, and not insurance survey. Soft decks and bilge smell need a surveyor on site. Thin listings get a short, cautious brief.
Pre-survey FAQ
- Is this the same as a professional survey?
- No. Pre-survey assessment is remote diligence and scope planning. The independent survey happens on the boat, usually with haul-out.
- Can I skip this if the boat is cheap?
- Low price often means hidden capex. A short assessment still saves travel and yard fees when the listing has document or photo gaps.
- How do I book and pay?
- Use the form on this page. Payment follows the published advisory menu (consultation from €150, survey coordination as quoted). Listing review stays a separate €49 Stripe checkout.
- What deliverable do I get?
- A written scope brief and checklist aligned to your candidate boat, ready to share with a surveyor or use in deposit talks.
