Hull-deck joint

Hull-deck joints on production yachts: leak paths, survey checks, and FairHelm reading of rubbing strakes and fastener lines.

Co to jest

The hull-deck joint is the structural and sealed join where the deck meets the hull topsides, often covered by a rubbing strake or toerail.

Anchor

Production Nordic boats use bolted, bonded, or combined joints. FairHelm looks for interior stains along the sheer, soft headliners, and exterior sealant cracking at the strake.

FairHelm judgment

FairHelm judgment: chronic sheer leaks are ownership cost and survey scope, not "normal for age" without inspection. Cosmetics outside can hide failed sealant inside.

Limits

Joint designs differ by yard and year. We do not claim one method always leaks. Inspect the boat you are buying.

Najczęściej zadawane pytania

Q: Is every rubbing strake a weak point?
A: It is a common cover line. Condition varies. Survey it.

Q: Can interior stains be condensation only?
A: Sometimes. Pattern along fasteners suggests joint or deck hardware leaks.

Q: Does a dry day survey miss joint leaks?
A: It can. Hose tests and rain history help.
