- Do you arrange surveys on megayachts / 'superyachts'?
- No - that is a different market (multi-day teams, class, hotel systems). Our lane is 9-18 m sailing and motor cruisers in the EU and Nordics: one surveyor day, haul-out, buyer-paid scope. If your LOA is outside that, we say so and point to a better-fit network rather than stretching a cruiser brief.
- Can I skip haul-out to save money?
- For GRP cruisers over ~25 years, afloat-only surveys miss keel, rudder, and bottom moisture. Most Nordic buyers insist on haul-out for pre-purchase scope.
- Who pays for the survey?
- The buyer pays the surveyor and yard in almost all EU private sales. Budget this before deposit, not after acceptance.

What you pay for
The surveyor's day rate is only part of the stack. Haul-out, travel, oil analysis, and a re-survey after repairs often add 30-50% to the headline quote.
FairHelm coordinates independent pre-purchase surveys. We do not survey boats we sell. Our role is logistics, scope briefings, and translating findings into negotiation numbers.
Rule of thumb
On a €80k-€150k Nordic cruiser, plan 1.0-1.5% of purchase price for survey + haul-out + travel before you credit repair findings against the offer.
