Marine plywood
Marine plywood on yachts: what the grade means, survey checks for delamination, and FairHelm limits on trusting labels alone.
Co to jest
Marine plywood is cross-laminated wood sheet bonded with waterproof adhesives and graded for boatbuilding, joinery, and structural panels where moisture is expected.
Anchor
Nordic interiors, bulkheads, and cockpit lockers often use marine or exterior grades. FairHelm meets BS1088-style claims on older boats and mixed cabinetry ply that is not marine at all.
FairHelm judgment
FairHelm judgment: peeling veneers, black edges, and soft screw holes beat a marine stamp on a dry locker photo. Label language is a clue, not proof the panel stayed dry for decades.
Limits
We do not invent remaining life percentages for plywood. Species, glue line, and ventilation decide condition. Ask a surveyor for the panel in front of you.
Najczęściej zadawane pytania
Q: Is every plywood aboard marine grade?
A: No. Cabinetry and furniture ply may be exterior or interior grade. Check edges and stamps.
Q: Does marine plywood never rot?
A: No. It resists glue failure better when wet, but untreated edges and poor ventilation still fail.
Q: Can I trust a listing that says marine ply throughout?
A: Treat it as a claim. Probe soft spots and ask where the stamp was photographed.
