FairHelm is an ISSA-accredited sailing school. We use the sea as the environment and attention as the core of growth. Small groups, 10+ years of teaching, and a team that believes the sea is a mirror of a person.

  • ISSA-accredited; head instructor can train instructors; we meet international standards
  • Small groups (up to 4), 10+ years of teaching and sailing in Sweden, Turkey, Croatia and more
  • We teach when to go to sea and when not to — focus, resilience and real seamanship

Who we are

We use the sea as the environment, the sail as the tool, and attention as the core of growth. FairHelm is a school where people learn to keep focus, resilience and clarity in real life through sailing. We don't diagnose or treat. We work with skills, environment and process.

We are a team of instructors, sailors and explorers who believe the sea is a mirror of a person. We don't teach you "to be a captain". We teach you to understand when to go to sea and when not to - how not to lie to yourself, how to hear boundaries, how to be useful in the crew.

What distinguishes us

Beyond ISSA courses, FairHelm is an Academy of Yacht Mastery for yacht ownership: expert-reviewed model guides, buyer advisory, and long-form articles in the yacht guides hub. Start from the academy portal or a buying guide such as survey cost. Whether you are learning on Yacht Crew today or comparing Scandinavian cruisers next season, survey notes and training paths live in one trusted place-not a separate "school site" and "yacht blog."

Team

  • ISSA accredited - we meet international standards; our head instructor can train instructors. For context on the accrediting body, see ISSA about.
  • 10+ years of teaching and sailing. Experience that stays with you.
  • Small groups (up to 4 people) - real attention, real responsibility.
  • We don't sell dreams. We help you be adequate at sea; what matters is the experience that stays after the course.

Our fleet

Vadim Nareyko / trainer, instructor

CTO, AI specialist, teacher and captain. Launches systems and meanings. Leads Yacht Crew - Mindhelm, Offshore and Instructor Training courses.

"For me, the sea is not about adrenaline. It's about boundaries, responsibility and honest joy."

Vladimir Abishev / instructor

Vladimir is an instructor who believes there is only one standard on the water - excellence. Anything less simply does not make sense, especially at sea. For several years he explored the Stockholm archipelago using only paper charts - no electronic navigation. That experience shaped his teaching philosophy: understand the sea first, rely on technology second. He also runs sailing expeditions through the archipelago as part of his own project, Fordewind Sailing.

"On a boat, precision is respect - for the sea and for the people around you."

Andrey Badyulya / instructor

Instructor, QA engineer, practitioner. Works with boats, teams and reality. Conducts courses in Sweden and Turkey.

"I teach through experience. Mistakes, watches, real team. Without playing 'captain'."

Nikita Nareyko / designer, video, marketing

Responsible for the visual style and images of FairHelm. Design, video, storytelling. Interested in the sea; he will soon sail with us as a participant.

"I show the sea through the eyes of those who go to it."

Sergei Shemchenok / skipper

Sergei is a skipper who prefers practice over theory. Less talking - more sailing. He is direct, sometimes blunt, but always fair. On board, he values clarity, responsibility, and real skill over pretty words. If something can be trained, it will be trained. If something can be improved, it will be repeated until it works. Sergei has strong technical expertise and understands yachts not only as vessels, but as systems. In his free time, he delivers yachts, maintains them, and works on repairs - gaining hands-on experience in real conditions, not classrooms.

"A good skipper doesn't explain how it should work - he shows you how it works."
